Job Description

Wharton is seeking a dynamic leader to oversee the development and operations of a new non-credit online learning partnership for undergraduate level students, part of the new AltFinance program. The partnership connects Wharton content directly to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) institutions around the United States. The program goal is to provide HBCU students with the unique skills and knowledge to create a pathway into careers in alternative investment firms.

Reporting to the Executive Director of Wharton Global Youth Program, the Director will oversee the launch and ongoing operations of the partnership. The work includes identifying course content, creating online modules, identifying faculty instructors, and supporting the enrollment of students. The position will require a collaborative mindset to work across Wharton and with outside partners, as well as an entrepreneurial drive to develop new learning models. The Director will work with peers in the new WhartonNext group, a newly-formed division of staff & faculty focused on enterprise-level solutions that allow Wharton to reach new audiences to provide global leading business content for a diverse set of learners.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • In partnership with faculty, create and launch virtual and in-person courses in line with program agreement and feedback from AltFinance and HBCU partners. This includes annual budget development and fiscal responsibility for operating budget.
  • Coordinate with Academic Director, Faculty Committees, and instructors on course development, as well as marketing, communications and operations on course promotion and delivery. Act as liaison for AltFinance to staff across Wharton, including the undergraduate division, academic departments and other constituencies.
  • Oversee daily operations of programming, reporting on efforts such as student enrollment, program performance, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Serve as primary point person to AltFinance team and HBCU partner institutions to coordinate programming and provide feedback.


Required:
  • Master's degree in education, instructional design, business, or related field; and
  • 5-7 years of experience (7-10 years preferred) in an educational setting, with demonstrated program development and academic operational success; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated skillset in online course development, design, and operations, including course design and LMS support in both asynchronous and synchronous delivery.
  • Personal knowledge of, and professional experience with, business and financial education programs.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and drive, with clear work experience in creating new learning programming or products. Experience working across constituencies with clear communication skills to work with faculty, staff, and external partners.


Preferred:
  • Experience working with or for HBCU institutions
  • Understanding of alternative investments and/or private equity industries
  • Knowledge of the Canvas LMS, basic video editing, audio recording, and HTML
