Job Description Summary
The University of Pennsylvania (Penn) is seeking a talented professional for the role of OVPR Director. The successful candidate will oversee several critical funding programs along with the Provost's Diversity Post-doctoral program and help establish the future direction of OVPR's communications. The Director will develop a strong understanding of OVPR's short- and long-term goals and how to align the office's communications to both OVPR's and Penn's overarching goals.

Reporting to the Senior Vice Provost for Research, the OVPR Director will be primarily focused on administrating a portfolio of internal funding programs and Penn's external limited submission funding programs, oversee the Provost's Diversity Post-Doctoral Fellows, OVPR communications, and manage OVPR's administrative resources. It is expected that the Director will supervise a team of two administrative staff in supporting those programs and the OVPR office.

The successful candidate will possess excellent written, verbal, and digital communication skills including the creativity to produce exciting and interesting content. In addition, the successful candidate will possess the technological ability to work on a variety of digital platforms and create web and mobile content. Finally, the successful candidate will have a demonstrated knowledge of higher education and research administration, organization and leadership skills, strategic thinking and analytical skills, and the ability to multitask and prioritize projects.

Job Description

Responsibilities:
  • Direct OVPR Communications - Develops strategy for communications to various campus constituencies, to leadership, and to the public; manages the OVPR web site and expanding social media presence to optimize impact.
  • Oversee the Provost's Diversity Post-Doctoral Fellows - Manages program including placement decisions and managing the central university-wide post-doctoral program framework.
  • Direct OVPR Funding Programs - Manages and oversees funding programs including solicitations and review processes for University Research Foundation (URF), Research Facilities Development Fund (RFDF), Discovering the Future, and Accelerating from Lab to Market funds.
  • Direct Limited Submission Grant Opportunities - Manages the portfolio of limited submission opportunities including applications and multi school peer review processes, submission recommendations.
  • Manage Resources - Directs, hires, trains, and evaluates OVPR office staff, providing guidance and professional development support.
  • Manage OVPR Mail Log


Qualification:

A Bachelor's Degree is required, while an advanced degree is preferred, along with 5 to 7 years of experience in research administration and/or research communications or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior experience in higher education, specifically research is required. Prior and demonstrated staff management experience is required. The candidate must have requisite technical knowledge to make executive decisions.
