Director of the Tutt Library

Colorado College is an independent liberal arts college located at the foot of Pikes Peak. Founded in 1874, the College offers 2,000 students an interdisciplinary, inquiry-based curriculum on a unique academic calendar known as the "Block Plan" where faculty teach and students take one class at a time. A center of research, study, intellectual engagement and social interaction, the Tutt Library prides itself on providing topnotch resources, instructional services, and personal, in-depth research assistance. Colorado College seeks a creative, forward-thinking Library Director who will lead a highly collegial and effective organization, and cultivate a dynamic academic library that supports multiple ways of learning and knowing, integrates technological innovation and draws a diverse cadre of faculty, students, and staff to its intellectual hub.

Tutt Library has an annual budget of $3.4 million dollars; a total FTE staff of 28 (including ten librarians and the Printer of the Press of Colorado College); holdings of over half a million volumes; over 200 subscription databases; and access to over 61,000 online and print periodicals. As a member of the Colorado Alliance of Research Libraries, the library provides students with quick access to millions of titles through the statewide Prospector Union Catalog and to excellent reference and interlibrary loan services that satisfy the intense demands of the Block Plan. Students fully utilize the Special Collections' materials and archives, Government Documents, and enjoy hands-on experiences with The Press, a fine art letterpress. The library building also houses student resources and services including the Writing Center, the Quantitative Reasoning Center, and the Help Desk for technological support.

The next Director joins Colorado College at a propitious moment, as a major remodel nears completion. After years of planning and building, the Library Director will have the opportunity to help usher in and shape the library's evolving role in inclusive learning, teaching, and research at the College. The new Tutt Library will serve as an expression of the College's pedagogical philosophy and the intellectual hub for one of the country's leading liberal arts institutions. The Library Director will:

  • Develop, articulate, and drive an inclusive and collaborative vision for the future of the library
  • Create and foster meaningful internal and external partnerships
  • Provide inspirational leadership and management to a dedicated library staff
