East Tennessee State University (ETSU), located in the beautiful Appalachian Highlands region in scenic Johnson City, Tennessee, seeks an experienced and innovative academic leader to serve as Dean of the College of Business and Technology. The college serves over 2,800 students across seven academic departments offering a diverse range of programs that are accredited by AACSB, ABET, and NASAD. The academic departments that comprise the college include: Accountancy; Computing; Digital Media; Economics and Finance; Engineering, Engineering Technology and Surveying; Management and Marketing; and Military Science.

The Dean will foster a positive, resilience-informed work environment, by promoting a culture of safety, transparency, belongingness, collaboration, and empowerment. The Dean will champion diversity and inclusion efforts, develop and execute a clear vision for the college, and will advance and implement the University’s strategic plan that includes enrollment growth, a commitment to student success, and an increased focus on research.

The Dean reports to the Provost and is responsible for providing leadership and management for the college, its academic departments, programs, and centers. The Dean will:

  • Support the mission, goals, and values of East Tennessee State University
  • Provide academic and educational leadership, management, and appropriate administrative oversight and support for all units and personnel within the college
  • Serve as the chief budgeting and operating officer for the college with overall responsibility for allocating available financial, space, and other resources to support the college mission and all other aspects of college operations
  • Demonstrate commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially as it pertains to the recruitment and retention of diverse faculty, staff, and students at all levels
  • Provide creative and diligent support for the University enrollment growth agenda
  • Promote and provide leadership and support for attaining and maintaining accreditation applicable to programs in the college
  • Promote and provide leadership and advocacy for all of the college’s programs and services
  • Participate in University leadership activities, in regional and state organizations or functions, and in appropriate affiliations with external and national organizations
  • Work with the academic leadership of the University to build interdisciplinary relationships and collaborative experiences for the students and faculty
  • Pursue opportunities and provide support to develop internal and external partnerships to advance college programs, services, and fundraising
  • Pursue and promote active and mutually beneficial collaboration with stakeholders and constituents, including schools and state and local governments
  • Supports high impact practices, experiential learning, and innovative pedagogy

Candidates will possess an earned terminal degree in a program area represented in the college, and the credentials to merit tenure and promotion to full professor.
