University of Puget Sound (Puget Sound), one of the nation’s leading liberal arts colleges located in the creative, urban city of Tacoma, Washington, seeks a strategic and experienced leader to be the next Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (EVP/CFO). With a visionary President, a dynamic and dedicated senior leadership team, passionate students, and exceptional faculty and staff, Puget Sound has just crossed the threshold to the next chapter in its 130-year history. The University’s strategic plan, Leadership for a Changing World, challenges the University to be bold and forward-looking in the delivery of education and in meeting the needs of current and future generations of students. The EVP/CFO will play a critical role in execution of the plan and ensuring the University adheres to its mission to develop students’ capacities for critical analysis, aesthetic appreciation, sound judgment, and apt expression that will sustain a lifetime of intellectual curiosity, active inquiry, and reasoned independence.

 

The EVP/CFO will join Puget Sound at a pivotal time, as the campus emerges from the global pandemic more committed than ever to promoting a transformational experience for all students. With oversight of financial operations, human resources, facilities, business and auxiliary services, and information technology, the EVP/CFO will work with colleagues and the Board of Trustees to ensure that Puget Sound is well positioned for the future in a dynamic higher education environment. The ideal candidate will be an inventive and experienced leader who is well versed in trends and best practices in higher education financial management and associated administrative areas. The candidate will bring to the position integrity, strong analytical skills, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to partner with leaders within and outside of the University. The EVP/CFO will demonstrate a clear commitment to serving the Puget Sound community and a successful track record in facilitating change in areas such as strategic planning, resource deployment, and revenue generation. The EVP will report to the President and serve as a key member of the Cabinet and will work closely with the Board of Trustees. The EVP/CFO will address the following opportunities and challenges:

 

  • Develop a comprehensive and future-oriented financial strategy that supports the University’s strategic priorities
  • Be a thoughtful steward of the financial resources of the University in partnership with the President, leadership team, and the Board of Trustees
  • Effectively and transparently communicate relevant financial information and decisions to the University of Puget Sound community at all levels
  • Lead, develop, and support the talented administrators and staff across the Division of Finance and Administration
  • Cultivate and encourage an environment focused on University of Puget Sound’s mission and commitment to diversity, inclusion and equity
