The Department of Pathobiology at the University of Pennsylvania's School of Veterinary Medicine is inviting applications for a research position to study cutaneous leishmaniasis. Experimental work will focus on bioinformatic analysis of samples from leishmaniasis patients and experimentally infected mice. One set of studies will focus on transcriptional analysis to define the pathways that lead to immunopathology in the disease. Additionally, these studies will include investigating the intersection of the skin microbiome and immune responses to Leishmania . Another group of studies will evaluate gene expression of T cell subsets in leishmanial lesions, with a focus on better characterizing resident memory T cells. An understanding of the experimental models used to study cutaneous leishmaniasis is important. The goal of these investigations will be to identify new approaches for host-directed therapies and for the development of vaccines for this debilitating disease. The successful applicant for this position will be expected to be proficient in bioinformatic analyses and have a strong background in immunology.
