The University of Pittsburgh (Pitt) seeks a dynamic and innovative leader with strategic vision to serve as the next Henry E. Haller Jr. Dean of the Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business and College of Business Administration (Pitt Business).

The Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business and College of Business Administration is annually recognized as among the best in the world when it comes to academic programs, exceptional value, faculty quality, and innovative research. The Economist’s 2021 MBA Rankings placed the Katz full-time MBA program as #30 in the world. Also in 2021, Poets&Quants ranked the College of Business Administration as the #9 Top Value Undergraduate Business School and #14 Best Business School. Pitt Business produces high-quality research in areas of importance and infuses new research knowledge into its academic programs. The school’s reputation allows it to attract international, national, regional, and campus partners and to develop distinctive collaborations in areas such as international business, technology management/engineering, and the health sciences.

Reporting to the Provost and Senior Vice Chancellor of the University of Pittsburgh, the Dean is the strategic, administrative, academic, and community leader of the school. Pitt Business currently has over 160 full- and part-time faculty, 78 staff, 20 executives in residence, nearly 700 graduate students, and over 2,100 undergraduate students. In addition, it has an operating budget of $40M and a $104M endowment. The Dean is responsible for working with diverse faculty, program leadership, and staff leadership to optimize the school’s strengths and provide a coherent, compelling vision that builds on Pitt Business’s success in undergraduate, professional, and doctoral business-related education; community, corporate, and international partnerships; and cutting-edge research—all within a financially sustainable environment. In addition, the Dean is an essential partner in advancing efforts to increase diversity and to promote an environment that is inclusive and provides equal opportunities for all. The Dean is expected to have a record of distinguished achievement that demonstrates the ability to successfully navigate a complex academic enterprise and provide exceptional leadership.

The ideal candidate will have: demonstrated administrative and leadership experience; effective interpersonal skills; proven fundraising ability; a dynamic management style; a capacity to forge a common vision; and the enthusiasm to match the energy of highly motivated students, faculty, staff, and accomplished alumni from around the globe. The successful candidate will have experience appropriate to the Dean’s role and responsibilities, an earned doctorate in a relevant field, and distinguished scholarly accomplishment and/or comparable professional achievements that merit appointment at the rank of tenured full professor.
