The Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) seeks an exceptional individual with extraordinary strategic, financial, and administrative expertise to serve as the next Executive Vice President for Finance and Administration & COO (EVP & COO). This is an outstanding opportunity for a seasoned leader with a strong record of successful financial stewardship and highly refined administrative and operational skills to join MCW in its mission to transform and continually innovate health sciences education and research.

 

MCW, with the 3rd largest private medical school in the nation, is a private health sciences university with a long-standing reputation for providing outstanding medical and graduate education, cutting-edge biomedical research, innovative and compassionate patient care, and improving the health of the communities it serves. MCW employs one of the largest academic physician practices in the United States. These physicians practice primarily at Froedert Health, Children’s Wisconsin, and the Zablocki VA Medical Center to advance clinical and translational research and to provide a rich experience for undergraduate medical and pharmacy students and graduate medical trainees. MCW is an anchor institution in and dedicated to the communities it serves and is a strong proponent for health, social equity, and economic vitality. With an operating budget of approximately $1.3 billion, MCW is a research-intensive medical school that in FY 2020 invested $300 million in research, teaching, and training and is consistently ranked among the top third of medical schools in National Institutes of Health annual funding. MCW recently completed construction of a 320,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art Hub for Collaborative Medicine, housing 1,500 MCW faculty and staff. The Hub facilitates greater connectivity and collaboration and encourages innovation between faculty and staff involved in clinical care, research, education, and community engagement.

 

Reporting to President & Chief Executive Officer John R. Raymond, Sr., MD, the EVP & COO serves as the principal administrative officer of MCW, is a member of the institution’s senior leadership team and is responsible for the financial functions of the university, as well as the planning, organizing, evaluating and monitoring of all administrative and facilities functions. They will work within a large and complex institutional structure that requires developing and nurturing collegial, collaborative, and productive relationships, and will play a key role in setting institutional priorities and identifying and allocating resource to support MCW’s mission, strategic goals and initiatives. The next EVP & COO will oversee strategic financial and administrative planning, budget development and implementation, policy formulation, facilities and organizational development. The role also has oversight of facilities, central purchasing, information services, and other institutional functions as required to support MCW’s missions.

 

The successful EVP & COO will be a forward-thinking and innovative leader who will proactively respond to and address the needs of today’s rapidly changing financial, research, and health care environments. They will bring significant fiscal, operational and administrative experience in complex settings; strong financial management skills; familiarity with the management of sponsored research; and collaborative problem-solving abilities.
