ABOUT UNDERGRADUATE ADMISSIONS

Undergraduate Admissions supports outreach and recruitment strategy, admission policy and processes, and yield initiatives for domestic and international first-year, transfer, adult and non-degree students enrolling on the Athens campus and in OHIO Online programs. The Undergraduate Admissions team is comprised of more than 50 full-time staff members, including a talented recruitment team based in Athens, as well as a growing team of strategically positioned staff members in key markets throughout the U.S. and around the world. Undergraduate Admissions supports colleges, schools, and departments in the pursuit of academically specific recruitment and admission goals.

LEADERSHIP PROFILE & POSITION SUMMARY

Position Summary: The assistant director for tours oversees the Office of Undergraduate Admissions campus tour operation that serves as “the front door” of Ohio University. This position hires, trains, supervises the tour guide and reception desk teams of student employees. Reporting to the associate director for visits and events, the assistant director for tours also supports the planning and implementation of campus visit programs and off-campus events for prospective students, their families, and their influencers. In addition, this position serves as a member of the Undergraduate Admissions recruitment staff team and represents Ohio University at on- and off-campus activities as well as assists in application review.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Campus Tour Program Management: The assistant director for tours develops, implements, and assesses an authentic year-round campus tour program for Undergraduate Admissions which includes in-person and virtual individual, group, and VIP tours. This position coordinates with campus partners to schedule facilities, promote campus tour opportunities, and host effective and efficient on-campus engagement experiences for prospective students, their families, and their influencers. This position coordinates daily staffing schedules to ensure optimal coverage for tours and the three reception desks located in two separate buildings. The assistant director recruits, hires, trains, and supervises a diverse team of 100-150 student employees to serve as ambassadors to Ohio University, provide campus tours, and receive visitors. This position prepares and oversees tour guide and reception desk personnel budgets and manages payroll procedures as well as the guidelines, policies and procedures for the campus tour program and reception desk operations. The assistant director ensures timely communication of information and ongoing training for student employees. This position provides regular reports on campus tour activities and makes recommendations for strategic enhancements to the tour program to achieve the office’s enrollment goals.

 

Programs and Events: The assistant director assists the associate director for visits and events in the planning, coordination, and implementation of in-person and virtual recruitment and yield programs and special events designed to achieve the enrollment goals of Undergraduate Admissions and academic units. This position coordinates with internal and external partners to schedule facilities, promote programs and events, and host effective and efficient on- and off-campus engagement experiences for prospective students, their families, and their influencers.  Serving as the subject matter expert, this position advises campus partners on the development of their own targeted visit and event programs. The assistant director also assists with the creation of program budgets, ensuring project timelines are followed, and assessing campus visit and event experiences to ensure effective and efficient allocation of university resources.

Recruitment and Admission: Serving as a member of the Undergraduate Admissions recruitment team, the assistant director for tours represents the University on- and off-campus to a wide variety of constituents, including prospective students and their families, secondary and postsecondary school personnel, community-based organizations, and other individuals or organizations involved in the college selection process. This position conducts admissions presentations during daily visits and events and counsels and advises constituents on a range of admission and enrollment processes. The assistant director maintains a thorough knowledge of trends in the field of admissions and advise constituents on the breadth and depth of opportunities available at OHIO. The assistant director participates in the evaluation of admissions applications and supplemental materials through a thorough, holistic, selective review process for the purposes of making admission decisions. This position also determines necessary documentation to support an admission decision and recommends appropriate alternative pathways when admission cannot be offered. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in any field conferred by start date; a minimum of three years of directly related experience; a minimum of one year management experience, which may include supervision of part-time or student employees or volunteer management; and demonstrated interpersonal communication and public speaking skills.  

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred, but not required, qualifications include being multi-lingual; experience overseeing visit/tour experiences; event planning and implementation experience; and previous experience in college admissions, academic advising in higher education, college student personnel, or counseling or teaching in secondary schools.

Candidates with a master’s degree are also preferred, but not required. Pay Rate

Based on extensive benchmarking data, the assistant director position is mapped to Pay Grade CA&P 15 at OHIO, with a target hiring range of $40,296-$45,837. The exact base salary for the selected candidate will be negotiable, commensurate with education and experience, and competitive in the field within the context of similarly situated positions at public universities nationally.
