Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs

The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh and Chancellor Andrew J. Leavitt invite applications and nominations for the position of Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.  We are seeking an energetic, innovative, dynamic and experienced administrator.  In concert with a talented and dedicated faculty and staff, the Vice Chancellor will successfully address the opportunities and challenges facing the Student Affairs Division of the University.  The successful candidate will articulate the University’s vision and strategic directions in a way that energizes the Student Affairs Division toward those goals.  We seek an individual who values an educational experience that incorporates all aspects of a public comprehensive regional university.  In a time of renewed energy and optimism, this is an opportunity to become a critical part of a shared governance community.

Description of Duties:  Reporting to the Chancellor and serving as a key member of the University’s administrative team, this position is charged with the responsibility to provide vision, leadership, coordination, and strategic direction to a comprehensive array of services and programs pertaining to student affairs.  The Vice Chancellor is expected to provide innovative and forward-looking support to help integrate and coordinate the services of the various divisional units that report through this office.  The Vice Chancellor will work closely with other administrative leaders and the University’s extended community to meet the changing needs of an increasingly diverse student population.

Current responsibilities include the following departments/units:  Career Services, Counseling Center, Dean of Students, Disability Services, Reeve Memorial Union Programming, Residence Life, Student Government, Student Rec and Wellness Center, Enrollment Management, Financial Aid, Admissions, and the Student Health Center.  The combined budgets are approximately $21 million dollars.

Required qualifications:  Candidates should present evidence of:

  1. An earned doctorate degree;
  2. An exemplary record of progressively responsible administrative experience—in multiple units of student affairs over time—addressing the complex and inter-related functions traditionally found within the student services area as broadly considered and defined;
  3. Demonstrated large scale fiscal management experience (development, execution and oversight of multi-million dollar budgets) within higher education;
  4. Significant management experience with personnel and human relations in higher education;
  5. An ability to work constructively and communicate effectively and transparently with students, faculty, staff, administrators, parents and other external constituents;
  6. Demonstrated commitment to increasing diversity and inclusiveness throughout the University community;
  7. Demonstrated success in developing and implementing strategic and operational plans;
  8. Demonstrated commitment to student development principles and practices;
  9. Understanding of and experience with shared governance in higher education.

Preferred qualifications:  Candidates should present evidence of:

  1. Experience in public higher education institutions;
  2. Enrollment management experience;
  3. Experience with student outcomes assessment;
  4. An understanding of technology and its uses in student affairs;

Compensation:  Compensation is competitive and based upon qualifications and experience.  Expected starting date is July 1, 2017.
