Provost and Dean of the Faculty

Norwich University, the oldest Senior Military College in the country, invites inquiries, nominations and applications for the newly established position of Provost and Dean of the Faculty (Provost). The University offers a unique learning environment that combines the resolve of a military education with a challenging liberal arts and professional education. The birthplace of the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC), Norwich is committed to helping both civilian students and those in the Corps of Cadets become critical thinkers as well as capable doers so that, upon graduation, they will be ready to make tangible contributions to their workplaces and to the world at large.

Nestled in the Green Mountains of central Vermont, Norwich University is located less than 30 minutes from the state capital of Montpelier and a few hours drive from Boston, New York and Montreal. Rural but not remote, the Northfield campus is small and community oriented, and is home to students from 40 states and 29 countries.

As the University looks to its bicentennial celebration in 2019, Norwich seeks an experienced and innovative individual who will embrace the collegiality of the campus community and collaborate on a variety of campus-wide initiatives designed to further its success while honoring the traditions of this robust institution. Reporting directly to the highly-accomplished President Richard Schneider and serving as the senior member of his Cabinet, the Provost will demonstrate diverse experiences and talents across a variety of functions of the University. Building upon Norwich’s proud history of innovation and leadership in higher education, the Provost will articulate an integrative vision for the distinctive education that Norwich University provides. S/he will also provide the leadership and support necessary to ensure the integrity and excellence of the academic programs; support the faculty’s teaching and scholarship; and advocate for faculty and the academic programs within the University, community, and external regulatory agencies, as required. This newly-created position of Provost and Dean of the Faculty represents an evolution from a vice president of academic affairs structure to the broader scope of a provost, gradually assuming increasing responsibility for other areas of internal operations.

The new Provost is expected to assume office on or about July 1, 2017.
