POSITION DETAILS

The Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Institutional Advancement is a member of the Institutional Advancement senior management team, and directly reports to the College President.  This position will serve as a leadership role in strategically working with the President to oversee the operations of the Development team. The Assistant Vice President for Institutional Advancement will also work closely with the Hunter College Foundation Board Members, Deans, faculty, administrators, and alumni in the planning and execution of the development program and related activities.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Collaborating with the President, to design and implement a comprehensive strategy to increase giving for all areas of fundraising, including annual giving, major and planned giving, and capital campaigns.

- Developing detailed strategies and programs for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding individual and prospective donors; managing the groups responsible for such activities.

- Developing an annual work plan that ensures the timely achievement of goals for fundraising, cultivation, and stewardship.

- Developing, planning, and managing a variety of fundraising and cultivation events.

- Overseeing the creation of solicitation and marketing materials to communicate fundraising needs.

- Developing, articulating, and implementing a comprehensive communications plan that will inform all fundraising activities and priorities.

- Establishing rapport with the President, the Foundation Board, Provost, alumni, community leaders, faculty, staff, and volunteers to gain an understanding of the college's substantive priorities, and facilitating the translation of those priorities into development, marketing, and public relations initiatives that lead to cultivation and solicitation; subsequently leading teams in the development and implementation of these initiatives.

- Overseeing the design and implementation of systematic donor and prospect research to support sound assessment of donors and prospects, and developing strategies designed to realize the current and lifetime giving potential of individual donors, leading to a stronger major gifts program.

- Supervising and directing the fundraising staff.

- Overseeing stewardship efforts to ensure that all donors are well-informed, acknowledged in meaningful ways, and appreciated in appropriate manner throughout the year.

- Contributing to the overall success of the Institutional Advancement Department by completing other assigned duties.

QUALIFICATIONS

This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan.  All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.

 

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate will be an energetic, dynamic leader with a proven ability to build and enhance relationships. A strong work ethic and ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment are essential, as are excellent written and verbal communication skills.
