The City University of New York (CUNY) seeks a strategic, innovative and creative professional to serve as the founding Vice Chancellor for University Advancement (VCUA). The successful candidate will work closely with CUNY’s Chancellor, James B. Milliken, to further promote philanthropy for the university and its member colleges. S/he will lead a transformative fundraising effort for CUNY to achieve university initiatives, academic program, and financial aid goals.

After self-study, strategic planning, and the successful execution of a multi-billion dollar development campaign, CUNY is poised for a period of new growth. The VCUA will join CUNY’s senior leadership team at a pivotal inflection point in the history of the institution. The successful candidate will lead the expansion of fundraising for CUNY-wide initiatives and contribute to conditions for successful fundraising and alumni engagement at the twenty-four colleges.

CUNY seeks an entrepreneurial leader with a proven track record in creating new principal gift constituencies and significantly expanding development results. Successful candidates will have a history of development within a complex, large environment. Candidates should have an appetite for prospect and donor discovery and engagement, a record of meeting ambitious goals and ability to confidently navigate the New York City philanthropic marketplace.

The VCUA will be responsible for developing, coordinating, and leading activities related to university-wide fundraising, corporate and foundation relations, and volunteer engagement. S/he will work closely with the Chancellor, presidents, and/or deans of CUNY colleges in support of University and college goals. To successfully meet the leadership challenge, the VCUA will collaborate effectively with colleagues in academic affairs, public relations, communications, and marketing to align resources to support successful fundraising.
