Summary of Position:
The Associate School of Nursing Director will provide administrative leadership, oversight, and coordination for all graduate programs.
More specifically, the Associate School of Nursing Director will work with individual program coordinators to coordinate, manage, and evaluate all academic affairs for the graduate programs, to include (but not limited to) : (1) curriculum development and approval processes; (2) academic program assessment and accreditation; (3) academic course scheduling, (4) student retention and progression; and/or (5) other academic processes and procedures critical for ensuring success of our academic programs and our students. The Associate School Director will supervise all part-time faculty and full-time non tenure-track lecturers within these programs, under the guidance of the School Director, and will assist the School Director with oversight of the instructional responsibilities of the tenure-track faculty in these programs and the management of resources for graduate programs. The incumbent will be expected to teach in their area of expertise, maintain a focused line of scholarly inquiry and publication, actively procure grants, and engage in service appropriate to support the School and the College.
This administrative appointment requires tenure at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. The Associate School of Nursing Director reports to the Director of the School of Nursing.
The successful applicant must qualify for appointment with tenure at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. Applicants must have: a doctorate in nursing or related field; graduate teaching experience; and expertise in grant writing and research. Nurse faculty members must have (or be eligible for) a current unrestricted license to practice as a registered nurse in North Carolina; effective interpersonal and communication skills; an established program of research and scholarship, and an exemplary record of professional service. The successful candidate will be expected to relocate and maintain a campus presence as part of the School of Nursing faculty.
Preference will be given to candidates who have prior administrative experience in a graduate program in nursing (or its equivalent); experience in program development and evaluation.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit:
The School of Nursing has an outstanding legacy of serving the people of southeastern N.C. through education, scholarship and service. The SON is dedicated to excellence in the development of health care professionals through in-depth education, professional partnerships, applied research, regional engagement and community outreach and impact. The SON is located in McNeill Hall, a state-of-the-art facility that includes offices, classrooms, a large lecture hall, computer laboratories, student success areas and learning commons, and the Simulation Learning Center. The Simulation Learning Center uses high, medium and low fidelity human patient simulators as a teaching and learning tool for nursing education. Through the use of simulation, we strive to create a realistic environment and a powerful learning experience that promotes cognitive, affective, physical and social development of the student as well as incorporating inter-professional collaborative experiences for students across the degree programs in the College.
The SON offers the following degrees programs: BS in Nursing (with options in pre-licensure and RN to BS), BS in Clinical Research, MS in Nursing (Family Nurse Practitioner and Nurse Educator, MS in Clinical Research and Product Development, and Post Masters Certificates in Family Nurse Practice and Nurse Education. A Doctorate of Nursing Practice was recently begun in Fall 2016. Over 1400 undergraduate and 200 graduate students are enrolled in programs within the SON. Currently, the SON has 55 full-time faculty. During the recently completed capital campaign, “The Campaign for UNCW: Soaring to Greatness,” $3,984,238.00 was raised to support programs, scholarships and establishment of three Distinguished Professorships, two of which have recently been filled with outstanding faculty.
The College of Health and Human Services was created in July 2010 to provide UNCW with a new mechanism to link and focus its health-related research, professional continuing education, and health knowledge dissemination and application. In the formative stage of development, the CHHS is currently home to three professional schools: School of Health and Applied Human Sciences, School of Nursing, and School of Social Work. The College seeks to be nationally recognized for its inter-professional and collaborative approach to enhancing the health and quality of life of individuals, families, and communities in southeastern North Carolina and beyond.
