Qualifications: Candidates should provide evidence of:
• MFA in painting, drawing, or other relevant area
• Minimum of two-years university teaching experience beyond graduate assistantship

Additional Preferred Qualifications:
• Strong exhibition history and evidence of ongoing professional research
• Strong technical skillset within the areas of painting and drawing
• Exemplified teaching excellence
• Teaching trajectory that prioritizes student needs and goals

Responsibilities: Applications are being accepted for a tenure-track faculty position to teach all levels of
undergraduate Painting and Drawing with an emphasis on the medias' contemporary and theoretical contexts.
The selected applicant will teach introductory and advanced level undergraduate courses in Painting,
Drawing, and 2-D foundations as well as a possible general education course in Art Appreciation. The
candidate will be expected to teach three studio courses per semester in addition to service to the department
and university.

Compensation: Commensurate with experience and qualifications. CSUB offers a generous benefit
package (e.g., excellent health, dental, vision, and retirement benefits).

Background Check: A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed
satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete
the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU
employees who apply for the position.

Mandated Reporter: The person holding this position is considered a "mandated reporter" under the
California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in
CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

Application: Complete submissions will consist of two .PDF documents. The first document should contain a
letter of interest addressing research goals and relevant teaching and work experience, a CV, names and
contact information for three references, teaching philosophy, and a sample syllabus for an upper-division

Department Information:
The mission of the Department of Art and Art History at CSUB is to encourage research, innovation, and
experimentation within our undergraduate students and to foster an environment ripe for learning and
risk-taking. The Department of Art and Art History and the department's Todd Madigan Art Gallery complement the University's larger mission by offering CSUB students and the Bakersfield community an opportunity to engage in advanced, creative discourse both locally and regionally. The department, offers three separate visiting artist programs that bring nationally and internationally-recognized artists to campus to work with students. The faculty is comprised of five tenure track or tenured professors, four fulltime lecturers, and three full-time staff who serve 100-150 Art majors. The department moved into a new facility in the fall of 2014 that supports coursework in a variety of 2D, 3D and 4D media.
