Associate Vice President for Continuing and Professional Education

Fairfield University invites nominations and applications for the position of Associate Vice President for Continuing and Professional Education.

Fairfield University has more than 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in its five schools and colleges. Founded in 1942, Fairfield University is a Catholic and Jesuit comprehensive university, one that holds the liberal arts as central to its institutional identity as it strives to develop reflective, discerning, highly educated citizens who are deeply invested in the common good.

Fairfield University is entering a period of targeted, strategic expansion. The University’s continuing and professional education programs will play a critical role in increasing access to high quality, Jesuit education; developing a convenient means for professionals seeking advanced degrees; and allowing FU to reach new markets and maintain its excellent financial health through revenue growth. The Associate Vice President serves as the University lead in overseeing continuing and professional education at the University.

This is a new position, created to develop the potential of a Jesuit education for non-traditional students. The University seeks an entrepreneurial leader with the vision and academic credentials to build broad based Continuing & Professional Education offerings both online and locally. The successful candidate will be a professional, with experience in an academic setting preferably in the areas of continuing education and online/distributed campus operation.

The new AVP will have:

  • At least five years of senior-level experience in new program development and managing online operations.
  • Willingness to innovate and identify institutional best practices that can be implemented at the University.
  • Strong analytic and problem-solving skills as well as excellent communication skills, flexibility, and a commitment to transparency and collaborative work.
  • An understanding of and commitment to support the Vision, Mission, and Values of the University.
  • A minimum of 8 to 10 years experience in the design and implementation of academic programs.
  • An advanced degree, preferably a doctoral degree.

The main goal for this position is to re-establish Fairfield University as a primary player in the continuing and adult education market in Connecticut and the North East – with programs for degree-completers, those seeking additional professional training (i.e., certificates), and increased Masters programs. We expect that in the first year, the AVP will work to learn the culture at Fairfield as well as identify key areas for immediate growth in adult and continuing education, with clear processes for bringing new revenue-generating programs to market. In three to five years, we expect that Fairfield will be offering a robust set of high quality, revenue generating continuing and professional education programs.
