Hofstra University (''Hofstra"), the largest private university on Long Island, New York, is seeking an exceptional leader to become the next dean (the "Dean") of the Maurice A. Deane School of Law ("Hofstra Law School"). Hofstra Law School is a highly regarded law school, committed to providing an extraordinary, relevant and innovative educational program, sustaining first-class legal scholarship, and preparing ethical, passionate and profession-ready graduates to make a difference in their communities and in the world. The Dean will be expected to nurture, lead and inspire a community of faculty, students, staff, and alumni to pursue excellence in research, teaching, practice and service.
Hofstra Law School, renamed the Maurice A. Deane School of Law in the Spring of 2012 after receiving a very significant gift to honor its distinguished alumnus and former Hofstra Trustee, Maurice A. Deane '81, has a proud 47-year history of excellence in legal education that is innovative, rigorous and relevant in preparing its graduates for the practice of law. Hofstra Law School was a pioneer in fully integrating clinical education into the law school experience and today offers its students an array of clinical offerings and other experiential learning opportunities. Hofstra's commitment to ensuring that its students are profession-ready upon graduation distinguishes Hofstra Law School as a leader in a rapidly changing legal service marketplace.
The successful candidate for Dean will have the experience, intelligence, vision and energy to lead Hofstra Law School, build its resources, enhance the rigor and relevance of the legal education and nurture the unique and valuable sense of community that pervades the law school campus and makes Hofstra Law School stand out among its peer institutions. Qualified candidates from the legal academy or other institutions of higher education, the world of the private practice of law and the judiciary, as well as from business, government and the civic sector are all encouraged to apply.
