Assistant Professor of Public Policy and Administration


The School of Public Affairs (SPA) at Penn State Harrisburg invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of public policy and administration effective August 2017. The successful candidate will contribute to the Master of Public Administration (MPA) program and the undergraduate Public Policy program, with the possibility of contributing to the PhD program in public administration. The SPA seeks a scholar with teaching interest and experience in a substantive public policy area (e.g., urban, environmental, health, transportation, welfare policy) and/or policy analysis and evaluation methods.

The successful applicant for this position should have an earned doctorate in Public Administration, Public Policy, or a related discipline and must provide evidence of, or potential for, an active research agenda. The J.D. is not a substitute for the doctoral degree and will not be considered a terminal degree for this position. The MPA program, which is accredited by NASPAA, is designed for those with career interests in public management, health and human services, government, and other public service and nonprofit organizations. The program has a public policy/policy analysis component and is offered both in-residence and online. The undergraduate Public Policy program is designed for students interested in policy issues, politics, public administration, and related areas like policy analysis and policy advocacy. It prepares students for careers in the public sector, in government-related businesses, and in non-profit organizations, as well as for graduate work in the fields of law, public administration, criminal justice, public policy, political science, and health care administration.

The SPA offers additional undergraduate programs in Political Science, Criminal Justice, and Health Policy and Administration and additional master`s programs in Criminal Justice, Health Administration, and Homeland Security.
