Postdoctoral Associate of Engineering

The Verbridge Laboratory for Integrative Tumor Ecology (LITE) in the Virginia Tech – Wake Forest University School of Biomedical Engineering and Sciences is seeking a postdoctoral researcher for a funded project to develop advanced 3D engineered models of the dynamic tumor vascular niche. This will be a highly dynamic and interactive research opportunity, with the potential to collaborate on ongoing projects in the fields of brain and pancreatic cancer modeling, tumor ablation therapy development, and studies in tumor-bacterial interactions. Our lab uses a host of engineering, imaging, and molecular methods to analyze tumor microenvironment dynamics, and collaborates closely with experts in cancer, small and large animal models, microbiology, and devices, both at Virginia Tech and at the Wake Forest Comprehensive Cancer Center. The position will initially be for a 12-month period, with possible yearly extensions based on annual performance evaluations.

 

Candidates should have completed a PhD degree in Biomedical Engineering or a related field, with specific expertise in biomaterials, tissue engineering, and the tumor microenvironment. Candidates should have demonstrated a clear ability to communicate their research through conference presentations and publications in high impact peer-reviewed journals. The candidate will be expected to assist in grant proposal preparation, as well as to apply for postdoctoral funding, and should be independent and self-driven. The candidate will also be expected to be a strong collaborator, working closely with and mentoring both undergraduate and graduate students, as well as maintaining active collaboration with other labs at Virginia Tech.
