Director, Counseling Center
Allegheny College, a small selective liberal arts college located in northwest Pennsylvania, invites application for the position of Director of the Counseling Center & Personal Development Center. This is a full time administrative position reporting to the Vice President & Dean of Students. The Counseling Center offers individual counseling for a variety of personal, academic and career related issues, crisis services and also does campus community outreach including preventive education and wellness programs. Our campus serves students in ways that support and affirm all of their identities. We welcome candidates who will continue to expand our reach to marginalized and under-represented students, including but not limited to persons of color, international, first-generation, veterans, those with disabilities, and LGBTQ.
The position will oversee the operations and staff of the Counseling Center, including supervision of three full time licensed professional therapists, a secretary/receptionist, and graduate student interns. The Director will provide individual counseling to students; respond to crisis situations; develop and implement outreach programs to the college community; develop and maintain strong working relationships with administrative and academic departments; oversee and participate in the Counseling Center on-call weekend and evening rotation; develop and monitor the annual budget; participate in or lead college committees as needed or appointed; and be an active member of the Student Affairs Directors’ team.
Requirements for the 11-month, on-going position include a minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional experience in a college/university counseling center or other closely related experience. A Master’s Degree in Counseling, Social Work, Clinical or Counseling Psychology is required. A Ph. D. in Counselor Education/Supervision or Psychology or related field, and PA license or license expected by start date or within 90 days of employment. Experience in a Counseling Center, supervising staff, and providing clinical supervision is required. College/university counseling experience and demonstrated expertise with young adult developmental and mental health concerns as well as significant experience working with diverse populations is essential. Leadership, interpersonal communication and teamwork skills are important along with an ability to interact easily with many campus constituents. The position will begin on or before July 1, 2017.
