ASSOCIATE VICE PRESIDENT FOR HEALTH AFFAIRS/CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER
The University of Louisville (UofL) seeks an exceptional financial and business leader to serve as its next Associate Vice President for Health Affairs/Chief Financial Officer (AVPHA/CFO). Reporting to and partnering with the Executive Vice President for Health Affairs (EVPHA), the AVPHA/CFO will be responsible for HSC financial planning, management of select strategic initiatives, and consolidated financial reporting for the HSC schools (Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, and Public Health). As a member of the senior leadership team, the AVPHA/CFO will also be an adviser to the HSC deans and center/institute directors, evaluating and assisting with financial planning and policy development to support the mission of the HSC. S/he will also have specific responsibility for the finances of the School of Medicine.
The AVPHA/CFO plays a leadership role in strategic planning, policy development, issue management and executive problem solving related to HSC finances. The individual provides counsel to the EVPHA on strategies to enhance the financial management necessary in the pursuit, support and achievement of excellence and innovation in education, patient care, and research. S/he will work closely with the HSC deans and leadership of the Practice Plans, the University, and University Hospital to optimize the mutual benefits of collaborative programs and initiatives. The AVPHA/CFO will play a key role in guiding the HSC’s future through careful stewardship of resources and to cultivate an environment that supports continuous change and process improvement.
The AVPHA/CFO will be a forward-thinking, strategic and flexible leader who can deal with today’s rapidly changing research, health care, and financial environments. The successful candidate will bring significant fiscal and administrative experience in complex academic medical settings, in-depth knowledge of the business of academic medicine, strong financial management skills, familiarity with sponsored research, and collaborative problem-solving ability. The new AVPHA/CFO will have a proven record of success in navigating highly complex environments, working with physician practice plans and clinical partners, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills with individuals at all levels of an organization. The AVPHA/CFO will be a proven leader with a bias towards action and results, tempered by an appreciation for the rich and diverse culture of a large public, urban research university.
