Provost

Eastern Illinois University is seeking a strategic and innovative academic leader to serve as its chief academic officer. The Provost will join President David Glassman’s leadership team and, together with the faculty, guide the University in excellence and growth. The Provost will also work collaboratively with the deans of five colleges, the Graduate School, School of Continuing Education, and other major administrative units to further enhance the institution’s brand of academic excellence, which is based on individualized attention to students and a commitment to liberal arts and professional programs of distinction.

Established in 1895 as a college for teacher preparation, Eastern Illinois University enrolls approximately 7,500 students and enjoys many points of pride. Eastern Illinois is the top-ranked public regional university in Illinois and ranked number 6 in its category (Regional Midwest) in U.S. News & World Report’s rankings of top public universities in the nation based on academic quality and excellence. The new Provost will be experienced in leading an organization ready for change and will have an entrepreneurial vision for EIU’s potential to enter new markets and expand its enrollment base. She/he will be an approachable leader with an inclusive and collaborative leadership style and a demonstrated commitment to shared governance and communication with various University constituents. Familiarity with a collective bargaining environment will be important for the Provost’s success as a leader at EIU. Demonstrated commitment to diversity and experience with promoting inclusive excellence is also required. The Provost must be inherently optimistic and positive and have the political instincts to work effectively with elected officials in the state. EIU seeks a Provost who will join the President as a champion for public education and who will engage fully in the life of the campus and broader community in support of the vital role the University plays in the region.
