Eastern Michigan University (EMU) invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. EMU is a public metropolitan institution known for excellence in community engagement and intellectual inquiry. It seeks a collaborative and inspirational leader to serve as its next Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.
Named a “Best Midwestern College” by Princeton Review and recognized for its commitment to campus diversity by U.S. News and World Report: America’s Best Colleges, the University currently serves more than 21,000 students from 45 states and more than 70 foreign countries. Located minutes from Ann Arbor, the EMU offers more than 300 majors in five colleges, and recently completed a $90 million science complex – one of the largest public construction projects in the state of Michigan. The University has successfully worked to offer the lowest tuition increases made by any of Michigan’s 15 public institutions for the past six years.
The College of Arts and Sciences provides a foundation for creative, critical thinking with a dynamic curriculum in order to prepare students to thrive in an ever-changing world. The College promotes an integrated education in the arts, humanities, social and natural sciences and it aims to equip students, faculty and staff for local and global community engagement and scholarship. It also serves as a catalyst for creativity, critical thinking and interdisciplinary. Its goal is to foster knowledge and curiosity for lifelong learning and promote skills to contribute positively to the community. The College of Arts and Sciences offers 191 programs and 18 degrees at the undergraduate and graduate levels through its 18 departments and two specialized programs. Reporting to the Provost and Executive Vice President, the Dean is the College’s chief academic, executive, and fiscal officer and a member of the University’s academic leadership team. The Dean has responsibility for an annual operating budget of $65 million and an academic enterprise including approximately 700 full- and part-time faculty members, and approximately 6,500 undergraduate and 900 graduate students. The Dean will guide the academic and business planning of the College, advocate for its interests within and outside the University, engage and serve the local and regional educational community, and work to increase the College’s national visibility and to secure the resources necessary to fulfill its ambitions.
