Texas Woman’s University (TWU) seeks to partner with an experienced and transformational leader with a vision for the role of professional education in a global society. Within TWU’s forward-thinking environment, the Dean of the College of Professional Education (COPE) serves as the academic administrative leader of the college and reports to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. The successful candidate will embrace TWU’s mission and build upon COPE’s impeccable reputation for preparing professionals and leaders in education, family sciences and library sciences that will impact the state, the nation and the world. Responsibilities include academic management, fiscal management, quality assurance, faculty relations, research support, fundraising and interaction with donors and alumni as well as oversight of all operations within the College of Professional Education.

Created in 1901 by the 27th Texas State Legislature, Texas Woman’s University (TWU) has become known for its contributions and leadership in the fields of education, nutrition, the arts, sciences and especially in the nursing and health care professions. For 110 years, the programs in TWU’s College of Professional Education (COPE) have been producing graduates who are well-prepared for both the present and the future challenges of their profession. With exceptional scores on state certification exams and accrediting agencies, and high marks from the schools, agencies and organizations that employ its graduates, the programs in COPE have a well-deserved reputation for producing and preparing extraordinary professionals who are making a difference in communities through Texas and the world.

The College enrolls over 2,300 students and employs approximately 62 full-time faculty with 58% tenured and 32% on the tenure track with 94% having terminal degrees. COPE offers 14 undergraduate programs, 22 master’s programs and 5 doctoral programs. Departments include Department of Family Sciences with undergraduate and graduate programs in Childhood Development, Counseling & Development, Early Childhood Development & Education, Family and

Consumer Sciences, Family Studies, and Family Therapy. The Department of Teacher Education prepares teachers for elementary (EC-6), middle school (4-8), special education, ESL and bilingual classrooms. The Department also works with other departments across the university to prepare teachers in high school (7-12) subject areas and all-level teaching fields. The Dean of COPE reports to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and supervises the faculty and staff of the College. As the chief academic officer of the College, the Dean is directly responsible for overseeing all academic, administrative and fiscal operations. Required qualifications include an earned doctorate in one of the disciplines in the College; an established record in teaching, research, and service commensurate with TWU’s requirements for the rank of full professor; a minimum of three years of academic administrative leadership; substantial experience in research planning with knowledge of research issues and policy; experience with grant writing and research funding and demonstrated accomplishment in academic leadership and management of instruction.
