Metropolitan Community College (MCC) is the third-largest system of higher education in the state of Missouri and the largest in the Kansas City metropolitan area. Through its five campuses (MCC-Blue River, MCC-Business & Technology, MCC- Longview, MCC-Maple Woods, and MCC-Penn Valley) the MCC district serves more than 36,000 students each year in credit and non-credit classes and provides a wide array of training and services to area businesses and industries.

Nearly 6,000 students each fall come to MCC-Penn Valley, located in Kansas City, and Penn Valley is MCC’s most diverse and global campus. The campus is known for its in-demand health career and strong art programs. The Penn Valley campus includes the Francis Institute for Child and Youth Development, the Carter Center for Visual Arts and Imaging Technology, the Applied Language Institute, the Brooks Institute (named for Kansas City justice advocate Alvin Brooks), and the Veterans Upward Bound program. The Metropolitan Jazz Workshop is a Penn Valley community education program for middle school and high school musicians. A few blocks south of the main campus is the Health Science Institute, a state-of-the-art facility that houses more than a dozen health-care programs and the Virtual Hospital.

Reporting to the chancellor of Metropolitan Community College, the president of MCC-Penn Valley is responsible for the delivery of academic programs, provides day-to-day management of the campus, and oversees campus operations, budget, and performance objectives. The president will also serve as a member of the district leadership team, along with the vice chancellors and other campus presidents, to support the district’s fiscal management, resource development, community relations, and other strategic goals. The president is expected to become an integral part of the community the campus serves to include close interaction with school superintendents, political and civic leaders, business and industry heads, and other key collaborators with the campus. The president will also have key institutional advancement, alumni, and fundraising responsibilities as part of the district’s strategic advancement team supporting the mission of the MCC Foundation as led by the associate vice chancellor of advancement.

The successful candidate will be a proven leader with demonstrated skills, vision, and integrity to guide the MCC-Penn Valley campus to higher levels of growth, achievement, and student success. Minimum qualifications include an earned master’s degree and at least five years of demonstrated success in a senior leadership position in higher education or other complex organization. An earned doctorate is preferred along with significant leadership experience in higher education and some teaching experience. The successful candidate will also possess an ability to organize and lead academic operations and cultivate a student-centered environment that promotes excellence; demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills to represent the institution effectively with internal and external constituencies; demonstrated success in fostering collaboration, openness, and responsiveness; demonstrated skills in fiscal management and resource development; commitment to working in a collegiate environment with shared governance; and commitment to diversity, inclusion, and creating an environment of equity for students and employees.
