Assistant Professor-Virology/Infectious Diseases

The Department of Microbiology & Molecular Genetics at the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine, invites applications for a full-time faculty position. The academic appointment will be at the Assistant Professor level in the Line (tenure track) series.


The position will be within the broad area of human virology/infectious diseases. All areas of virology/infectious diseases relevant to human disease are of interest, including molecular mechanisms of microbial pathogenesis, virus/pathogen-host interactions and genomics, immune responses to infection, molecular virology, vaccinology, and the role of the microbiome in host susceptibility/response to viruses and other pathogens.

Ideal applicants will be creative and collaborative scientists using state-of-the-art approaches combining different elements of cell biology, genetics, bioinformatics, biochemistry, metabolomics, and in vitro or in vivo models of infection. We would especially encourage applicants with innovative new perspectives and research interests that embrace interdisciplinary approaches.

Faculty in the Department of Microbiology & Molecular Genetics (http://www.microbiology.uci.edu/) have strong scientific interactions with other basic scientists and clinicians in the UCI School of Medicine, as well as researchers in the College of Health Sciences and in the Schools of Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Engineering. The successful applicant will be expected to establish and maintain a rigorous, extramurally funded research program and participate in departmental teaching and mentoring missions for graduate students and medical students.


All applicants must have a Ph.D. and/or M.D., as well as postdoctoral research experience, and a strong record of research accomplishments and publications.
