The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites applications and nominations for the position of Director of the Carolina Women’s Center.  The Director will lead the Center in fulfilling its mission—to create an inclusive education and work environment where gender is not a barrier to success, difference and diversity are celebrated, and everyone is safe to live, learn, teach, and work without threat of harm or unequal treatment—to ensure the ongoing growth and success of the women of UNC-Chapel Hill and their colleagues.

The Center, established in 1997, represents women's interests on a comprehensive range of issues, including professional development, health, childcare, pay equity, the campus climate for women, and the intersection of gender with a range of identities.  In other areas such as gender violence, it plays a more indirect and consultative role.

The Director of the Carolina Women’s Center works collaboratively and strategically to lead the University community toward increased gender equity, with a strong emphasis on diversity and inclusion.  The Director identifies needs and provides responsive and innovative programs and activities to achieve strategic priorities focused on the separate and shared needs of faculty, staff, and students, with special attention to intersections among identities and interpersonal violence prevention and intervention.  The Director accomplishes this work in collaboration with faculty, staff, administrators, and students from all areas of the campus along with alumni and community partners.  The Director also sets priorities for the Center in accord with the University’s strategic plan and uses their experience and knowledge to create fosters a culture of service and excellence. The Director also works closely with the University Development Office to establishes a robust fund-raising profile for the Center and serves as the lead in seeking financial support for Center initiatives.

The position requires a minimum of a Master’s degree, Ph.D. or other terminal degree preferred, and five to ten years of progressively more responsible experience in developing, leading, and administering programs, projects, centers or agencies focused on gender equity, intersectionality, and the needs of women.  Candidates at the Bachelor’s level with significant and relevant experience will also be reviewed. The successful candidate will possess many of the following attributes: knowledge of issues affecting women faculty, staff, and students and experience in addressing those issues; collaborative leadership style; outstanding written and verbal communication skills; demonstrated ability to build positive working relationships with a wide variety of partners and constituents; expertise in program development and outcomes assessment; strong managerial, fiscal, and administrative abilities; an understanding of academic culture, policies, and procedures typical of major public research universities; experience working with off-campus community partners; demonstrated fundraising abilities; passion and drive; and commitment to best practices.

The Director reports to the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost through the Vice Provost for Academic and Community Engagement and prepares and transmits an annual budget and annual assessments of the Center’s and the Director’s activities.  This is a full-time, at-will EPA-Non-Faculty position.
