The Florida Atlantic University (FAU) School of Criminology and Criminal Justice (SCCJ) invites applications for a full-time tenure-track assistant professor position starting Fall 2022 on the Boca Raton campus. Areas of specialization are open. Priority consideration will be given to scholars whose work examines social and racial disparities, health and behavioral health, decision-making, or information and communication technologies in criminal justice and/or criminology.

The College of Social Work and Criminal Justice is a partnership between the SCCJ and the Sandler School of Social Work that enables us to reimagine our professions, promote multidisciplinary education and research, address a wider spectrum of societal needs, and champion systemic change through teaching, research, scholarship, and service. Our School has a culturally rich educational environment and has the third largest undergraduate degree program by enrollment at FAU. We offer a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice and a Master of Science in Criminology and Criminal Justice. Teaching areas are also open though we have a particular interest in those who can teach classes about courts and corrections (e.g., adjudication, sentencing, community supervision, jails, prisons, consequences of mass incarceration policies). School initiatives include a decision-making simulation lab, community engaged research, study abroad, high school summer camps, a fully online undergraduate degree program, research colloquia, and research partnerships with the public, private, and not-for-profit sectors.
Faculty are expected to teach in the undergraduate and graduate programs and across multiple modalities, including fully online courses. The teaching load is 3:2 though junior assistant professors receive release time to establish their research program. Teaching over the summer is available for additional compensation.
A Ph.D. in Criminology, Criminal Justice, or allied field is required. ABDs will be considered but requirements for the Ph.D. must be completed by the position start date. A Juris Doctorate alone is not sufficient.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to conduct independent research and publish in peer reviewed journals, have a record of or the potential for securing external funding, engage in research and/or service with our communities, as well as contribute to the graduate program.
