The University of Maryland, College Park (UMD), the public, land-grant University of the State of Maryland, seeks a highly respected scholar and educator to serve as Dean of the College of Education (COE). UMD is home to a highly distinguished faculty in its 12 colleges and schools and serves more than 28,000 undergraduate and 10,000 graduate students. The COE should serve as a center for cutting-edge research in multiple areas of education as well as a focal point for capacity building throughout the State of Maryland and its communities.

Reporting to the Senior Vice President and Provost, the Dean will lead the College’s 160 faculty members in developing a clear identity, vision, and strategy to realize that vision for the next stage of the College’s development. The College provides a broad and robust set of offerings to students across three departments. The Dean will champion the COE across the campus as well as externally, engaging stakeholders in the UMD community, throughout surrounding counties, the state, and Washington, D.C., as well as nationally and globally. S/he will convey the diversity of offerings of the College and its immense potential to be a major player in a time of rapid change in education. As the chief academic and administrative officer of the College, the Dean is responsible for the educational experiences of the 673 undergraduate and 981 graduate students and will oversee many highly ranked programs including the top ranked Counseling and Personnel Services and top ten ranked Educational Psychology and Higher Education Administration programs. The College has a $20 million operating budget and research expenditures of approximately $14 million annually.
