POSITION

The Department of Medical Education (DME) at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) invites applicants for a Bridge to the Faculty Postdoctoral Research Associate position. A successful Bridge to Faculty Postdoctoral Research Associate may be appointed for an additional year, and, with department approval, may have the opportunity to transition to tenure-track faculty status in the 2024-2025 academic year. The expected start date for the Bridge to Faculty Postdoctoral Research Associate is August 16, 2022. The successful candidate must have completed a doctoral degree (Ph.D., Ed.D., M.D., J.D. or relevant terminal degree) no earlier than August 16, 2018 and no later than August 1, 2022.

The Bridge to the Faculty program is an initiative to diversify the faculty by attracting and retaining promising individuals from groups that have been historically underrepresented in health professions education and the health humanities. In addition to mentorship within the Department of Medical Education, the research associate will participate in a cohort-based mentoring experience through the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Diversity, Equity, and Engagement, where they will have the opportunity to meet other Bridge to the Faculty Scholars.

We seek a Postdoctoral Research Associate pursuing a career in the field of health professions education and health humanities. This includes individuals from a variety of social science and humanities disciplinary backgrounds (psychology, sociology, teacher education, anthropology, philosophy, history, literature, ethics, critical studies, health equity, ethics, and others), as well as professional backgrounds (e.g., Ph.D., Ed.D., M.D., and J.D.). The capacity to connect these fields to matters of race and ethnicity in the health professions is valued. Direct experience in medical education or other health professions education contexts is desirable but not required.

This is a full-time position and includes a competitive salary and benefits package. Postdoctoral Research Associate are expected to teach one course per year, develop an active research program, and participate in a mentoring program.

DEPARTMENT OF MEDICAL EDUCATION
The Department of Medical Education (DME) at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine is the oldest continuously operating department of medical education in the world, with a strong commitment to scholarship and leadership in the field. The department is highly interdisciplinary. Faculty come from diverse disciplinary backgrounds that include, sociology, statistics, cognitive psychology, neuroscience, philosophy, ethics, and the health humanities. The work of DME faculty involves instruction, curriculum design, research, and service in the fields of health professions education, health humanities, and healthcare ethics. Its core educational contributions include training Ph.D., M.H.P.E. (Master of Health Professions Education), M.P.S.L. (Master of Patient Safety Leadership) and M.D students.
