The College of New Jersey (www.tcnj.edu) invites applications for the position, Business Intelligence Analyst/Developer. This position is based in the department of Institutional Research and Analytics (IRA) within the Operations Division and will report to the Executive Director of Institutional Research and Analytics. IRA is a strategic partner with the TCNJ community by connecting and transforming institutional data into accurate, accessible, and actionable information that is used to advance a culture of data-informed decisions, actions, and outcomes.

This cross functional position will focus on report development across a mix of reporting environments and will implement and expand the office’s business intelligence initiatives. The position will be responsible for developing insightful, innovative and engaging reports and dashboards that are easy to consume by end-users using Tableau. The position will also provide additional support for report development in the Oracle Cloud environment. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Write queries, develop reports, KPIs and conduct analyses for the Office of Institutional Research & Analytics.
  • Design, implement, and support business intelligence dashboards and data visualizations.
  • Participate in data warehouse architecture activities.
  • Participate in data management activities including data quality standards, data validation, data stewardship and governance.
  • Develop proficiency building reports using Oracle BI Publisher.
  • Provide end-user assistance/instruction for BI software use.
  • Assist is maintaining metadata and data definitions for end-users.
  • Work with the IRA team to administer policies, standards and procedures for strategic data planning, data analysis, data modeling, and data element standardization and to ensure accurate readily accessible data.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Business intelligence software development experience, preferably developing reports, dashboards and visualizations in Tableau and/or SAP Business Objects.
  • Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and design, ETL/ELT processes and integrations.
  • SQL coding experience; testing and debugging skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with stakeholders and capture functional requirements and translate into technical solutions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree (information science/systems, computer science, statistics, or related field)
  • A Master's degree in an Information Technology field may be substituted for one (1) year of experience.
  • Two (2) years of programming, systems analysis, or computer analysis experience.
  • Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute additional experience as indicated above on a year-for-year basis with thirty (30) semester hour credits being equal to one (1) year of experience.
  • At least 3 years work experience in business intelligence developing dashboards, reports, and visualizations using BI software.  Experience with Tableau and/or SAP Business Object preferred.
  • Experience with data management, data modeling and data warehouse design and concepts.
  • Minimum three years writing queries using SQL.
  • Experience using statistical data analysis and the ability to use statistical analytics software to perform analyses (e.g. SPSS, SAS, R, Python, Excel).
  • Experience working in a higher education setting and with Oracle preferred.
  • Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
