The Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Department of Medicine and Penn State Cancer Institute (PSCI) are inviting applications and nominations to fill the position of Division Chief, Hematology/Oncology in the Department of Medicine. This is an outstanding opportunity to lead an established division with a national reputation for academic excellence while serving a critically important role in the Penn State Cancer Institute as the it expands and proceeds toward achieving NCI Cancer Center designation.

The Chief will lead a division that currently consists of 35 faculty members and 26 advanced practice providers, with significant plans for growth. The Division has numerous collaborations with the Departments of Pathology, Pharmacology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Surgery, Radiology, and Radiation Oncology among many others. The Division is responsible for one of the largest stem cell transplant programs in the state. The hematology/oncology fellowship program is well established, consisting of 12 fellows while the Division is actively engaged with the Department of Medicine’s residency program.

The successful candidate will have an M.D./D.O. (+/- Ph.D) degree; subspecialty board certification in Hematology and/or Medical Oncology; and leadership experience in an academic setting. Bringing a record of extramural support in research, the successful candidate will qualify for the rank of Associate or Full Professor in the tenure or non-tenure track in the Penn State University College of Medicine. In addition, the successful candidate will possess outstanding clinical, teaching and communication skills, with a commitment to excellence, diversity, and mentorship. Strong knowledge of and experience in the requirements for NCI cancer center designation is highly desirable. An exceptional support package for investment into the Division will be made available to the successful candidate.

With strong support and encouragement from department and cancer institute leaders, the new Chief will be well situated to grow the Division of Hematology/Oncology. In so doing, the Chief will elevate and further develop the Division’s research; recruit, mentor and retain an outstanding faculty; effectively manage the Division’s clinical operations; serve as a strong advocate and role model for quality in clinical, educational and research excellence; focus on improving diversity, equity and inclusion in the Division; and maintain productive and collaborative relationships with leadership and stakeholders in the Department of Medicine, the PSCI, the Penn State Hershey Medical Center (main campus) and the Penn State Health System.
