Internship Program Coordinator - Syracuse University - Office of Career Services

 

Under general supervision of the Director of Career Services, manage the Internship Funding, Clements Award and new established Alumni Club scholarship application and award process, working with the Office of Financial Aid and cross-campus committee members. Facilitate the setting of year-to-year award amounts, monitors, and ensures compliance with Invest Syracuse guidelines, works with the Director of Career Services to negotiate changes to guidelines when appropriate to award funding, partner with the undergraduate Career Centers across campus to review candidate materials, serves as a liaison with the Office of Financial Aid to facilitate communication, coordinates the award notification, and reports on internship placement outcomes. Work collaboratively with the Assistant Director of Employer Relations and the Office of Student Employment on all aspects related to Career Fairs, Employer Engagement, external communications, Handshake employer approvals and promotion for career development opportunities to the student population at all 9 undergraduate schools and colleges.

 

Oversees student 3 award process for all 9 undergraduate schools/colleges, the Internship Funding, Clements Award and the newly created NYC Alumni Club Award; computes aid eligibility using established criteria established by Career Services and The Office of Financial Aid; awards and/or adjusts internship awards. Coordinates internship award program through determination of eligibility and selection of recipients; communicates with awardees; receives and processes funds from Career Services and assists in the arrangements for payment to award recipients. Prepares and maintains records related to the administration of financial aid and the internship award according to department procedure; assists in compiling data for the annual funding application, Fiscal Operations Report, and the year-end report. Collaborate and maintain relationships with schools and colleges within Syracuse University to help identify, reach out and guide students towards the internship-funding program. May include collaborating with Alumni and/or Employer relations to assist in helping to achieve education and career goals. Will serve as main point of contact with students and guide them through various program options in the University. Oversee the employer approval process with Handshake and vet organizations on potential internship opportunities to promote out to eligible students.

 

Manage marketing and communications for all 3 awards to multiple audiences in concert with the Director of Career Services. Coordinates, plans, develops, and conducts internal and external presentations or workshops both on and off campus to provide any, prospective and continuing students with specialized assistance and information on the Internship Funding Award, to inform student of program requirements and appropriate deadlines. Track data and metrics of student engagement and outcomes, via financial support awards and other career exploration opportunities. Collaborates with the Office of Institutional Effectiveness to align University-wide core competency polices. Assesses year end data and makes recommendations for improvement based on analysis of metrics. Assist in outreach and cultivation of existing and new cross-campus employer partners.

 

  • College degree required, 2-3 years professional experience in higher education with experience in career services, financial aid or scholarships office preferred.
  • Experience with program development and management is desired, familiarity with career services and a broad scope of internship career paths is a plus.
  • Familiarity with the general academic programs within the various colleges and schools of Syracuse University preferred. Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex information in a clear manner to a variety of audiences.
  • This position requires a high level of independent thinking, juggling multiple priorities, strong attention to detail, ability to work with collaboratively with members of the office, as well as campus partners while displaying a positive and effective teamwork approach to their assigned responsibilities is essential.
  • High-level computer knowledge and curiosity, problem solving and thinking ahead are highly sought after.
  • Proficiency required, particularly with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and other Microsoft Office applications. Knowledge of Handshake and Qualtrics software beneficial.
