Hiram College invites applications, expressions of interest, and nominations of candidates in its search for the next Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the College (VPAA). The next VPAA will be a forward-thinking and collaborative leader with an abiding commitment to the College’s mission and values. The VPAA will have the opportunity to work with President David Haney, College leadership, and a highly dedicated faculty and staff to develop an inclusive academic vision for the College.

Hiram College is located in rural Northeast Ohio, less than an hour from Cleveland, Akron, and Youngstown. The College provides students of all backgrounds an attainable private education that teaches the 21st-century skills needed to understand, shape, and mend the worlds they inhabit today, and those they will help lead tomorrow. The College equips all students with the tools necessary to embrace active learning in the classroom and beyond, with student-faculty collaboration at its forefront.

Hiram is one of only ten percent of U.S. colleges and universities to be awarded a chapter of the prestigious honor society, Phi Beta Kappa. In all, Hiram offers 33 undergraduate majors, 38 minors, two dual-degree programs, six pre-professional programs, an online undergraduate program – Online@Hiram, and a master’s degree program in interdisciplinary studies.

Reporting directly to the President, the VPAA serves as the College’s chief academic officer and is responsible for all curriculum, academic and co-curricular programs, faculty development, academic resources, and new program development. This cabinet-level position serves as advisor to the President, College officers, and the Board of Trustees in all academic affairs matters. As a member of a strong executive team, the VPAA will be expected to participate in all cabinet-level decisions about the College.

The successful candidate will have a track record of success leading within a liberal arts and sciences setting, possess a thorough knowledge of higher education trends, and convey character, compassion, and integrity. The ideal candidate will champion the recruitment and retention of a diverse faculty and staff, an inclusive community, and the promotion of multicultural understanding and global perspectives.

This new VPAA will ensure the quality of all academic offerings while providing visionary and innovative administrative leadership. The preferred candidate will embrace the College’s historically strong structure of shared governance and empower faculty to do their best work. In addition to proven experience in fiscal matters and effective management of resources, the next VPAA will demonstrate a spirit of entrepreneurship to explore new program development and course delivery modes. The ideal candidate will be committed to the College’s student-centered ethos.

This position requires a Ph.D. degree and progressive leadership experience, including earned academic faculty tenure and administrative responsibilities in higher education.
