Advanced Building Technology & Design, Assistant or Associate Professor
The College of Architecture (CoA) at Texas Tech University invites candidates to apply for fulltime tenure-track/tenured position(s) in Advanced Building Technology (ABT) at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. We have two open positions. They are located in Lubbock, TX and have a nine-month duty period, from approximately September 1 to May 31 each year.

Texas Tech University (https://www.ttu.edu/) is a public research university, an enrollment that has surpassed 40,000 students. Its main campus is located in Lubbock, Texas, which is in the high plains of the West Texas and Llano Estacado regions (https://www.depts.ttu.edu/hr/workattexastech/LivingInLubbock.php). As 25% of its undergraduate population identify as Hispanic, Texas Tech University is a designated Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI). Texas Tech University is also an R1 university, and engages is in the highest levels of research, meeting the benchmarks in research activity and expenditures as measured by the Carnegie Classifications of Institutions of Higher Education. Texas Tech University has also been recognized by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching as an “Engaged Institution” in both “Curricular Engagement” and “Outreach and Partnerships.” Texas Tech is a member of the Engagement Scholarship Consortium (ESC) which is composed of 28 public universities that work collaboratively to promote strong university-community partnerships that are anchored in the rigor of scholarship and designed to help build community capacity.
The CoA (https://www.depts.ttu.edu/architecture/) currently enrolls over 800 architecture students and has a reputation for producing technically trained, high performing architects, who understand the culture of design. In 2019, the CoA was #10 on Design Intelligence’s Most Hired From list. Our mission is to advance the knowledge, discipline, and practice of architecture through innovation, creative teaching, research, regional and global engagement, and scholarship. In support for this, the Lubbock campus offers four degrees: B.S. in Architecture, M.Arch, M.S. and Ph.D. The CoA also has a campus in El Paso, Texas, making the CoA the only college of architecture with a permanent program on the US/Mexico border. The El Paso campus offers a B.S. in Architecture, border issues forming a fundamental aspect of that program. The CoA is also globally engaged with a semester abroad program in Seville, Spain as well as study abroad programs and studios located in various international cities.

In support of our community and our values, the CoA seeks faculty members who will demonstrate a record of or a strong trajectory for developing and integrating research on building technologies within architectural design, teaching, and the profession.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate an ability to establish a robust research agenda that combines innovative building technologies and architectural design within the applicant’s area of expertise. Area(s) of expertise should include one of the following: material investigation, structural analysis, building assemblies, building performance, and/or fabrication, coupled with more specific interests in how these topics relate to environmental performance, regenerative and resilient design, design for a changing climate and/or other related research interests.
Teaching assignments may be specific to the candidate’s area of expertise, however successful candidates will be expected to teach and develop lecture courses in our building technology sequence and to coordinate building-based design studios.
At the CoA, all tenured/tenure track faculty engage in teaching, research and creative activity, and service. As a college located in a R1 university, candidates are expected to establish and maintain a strong research agenda, while also teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, lectures, design studios, and seminars in their area of expertise. CoA faculty are expected to contribute directly to the enhancement and expansion of Texas Tech University's research and creative scholarship, to advance their disciplines and the state of the art. Selected candidates will be joining CoA and Texas Tech University during a growth phase and a period of major opportunities for our faculty. As such, they will become a member of an outstanding and collegial faculty who have built our institution’s positive academic culture, adhere to the integrated scholar model, pursue external funds to support their research and creative scholarship, provide excellent undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentoring, and engage in service and outreach.

- Post-Professional degree in Architecture
- Demonstrated teaching experience in building technology
- Demonstrated teaching experience in architectural design studio
- Demonstrated experience in research and/or creative scholarship
- Demonstrated experience, or strong promise for working with underrepresented groups; or record of or strong promise towards work related to the issues of social justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion; or demonstrated work trajectory informed by experiences in multiple cultural environments
- PhD in the area of expertise
- Foreign language ability
- Experience in professional practice
- Evidence of research and/or creative scholarship
- Evidence or strong promise in research and teaching of architecture’s and/or urban impact on anthropogenic climate change
