The Individualized Study Program (INDS) at the University of Maryland Baltimore County welcomes applications for a two-year renewable lecturer position beginning in Fall 2022. This position is open to applicants from any discipline with at least a MA degree in their field (terminal degree strongly preferred). Successful applications should be able to demonstrate their ability to teach, advise, and mentor undergraduates from across multiple academic disciplines online or in-person. Applicants should also demonstrate their ability to teach critical thinking, written, and oral communication skills. Applicants should display the potential to contribute to program development, including pedagogical innovation. Applicants must also have a demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusive excellence in higher education.

ABOUT INDS: The INDS program is one of the longest-standing individualized degree majors in the country. The program affords undergraduate students the opportunity to work with faculty from across the campus in constructing unique undergraduate degrees that combine coursework from two or more traditional majors. The program currently serves ~70 students at any given time, guiding each through the successful completion of instructional and co-instructional activities to design, plan and execute unique degrees. These degrees usually blend coursework from between two or more of the colleges and schools at UMBC. The lecturer’s duties include leading small groups of students in seminar style classes, from their first encounter with the INDS program, to creating a web portfolio that summarizes each student's unique path to successful completion of an undergraduate education. The lecturer will teach 3 classes per semester, with an expectation that remaining time and effort be spent providing academic advising and/or program development that is equivalent to (and thereby replace) a fourth course per semester. Given the interdisciplinary nature of the individual study program, the successful applicant will also work closely with faculty from across campus, and with professional staff in diverse units oriented toward applied learning, career readiness, and other professional development. As a part of this work, all members of the INDS team are actively encouraged to interact with academics and professionals from across the UMBC community, building the network of professional relationships which support our students.
