About the Office
The Commission on Gender Equity (CGE) is leading the City’s efforts to make sure every girl, woman and gender non-binary individual throughout the five boroughs is treated equally and feels safe. We are putting the full force of municipal government—which is the city’s largest employer—to work on behalf of this cause. CGE is working collaboratively with City agencies on three key areas: economic mobility and opportunity; public safety; and health and reproductive justice.
About the Role
The Deputy Executive Director for Strategic Learning and Capacity Building is a member of CGE’s leadership team and supports the Chairperson and Executive Director by developing and implementing strategies and approaches to advance gender equity across NYC agencies and across sectors. The position reports to CGE’s Chairperson and Executive Director. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Oversee and manage the citywide Gender Equity Interagency Partnership to ensure the development, implementation, and sharing of the best practices to advance gender equity across city agencies.
- Establish cross-sector collaboration within CGE’s areas of focus to facilitate a cross-sector approach to establishing and maintaining gender equity in the City.
- Establish CGE as thought leader and a resource hub for internal and external audiences.
- Develop accountability measures to document progress to implementing sustainable gender equitable policy and practices.
- Manage NYC’s alignment with national and international policies that advance gender equity.
- Collaborate with CGE’s External Affairs and Policy and Programs departments to identify and communicate lessons learned in the building a gender equitable City.
- Conduct research and publish reports on the City’s progress to gender equity.
- Conduct research to inform the Chairperson’s testimony before NY City Council as well as remarks and presentations relevant to CGE’s focus areas.
- Supervise CGE staff, intern, and external consultants to conduct research, develop publications, host public forums and conferences, and other tasks, as necessary.
- Represent CGE, as appropriate, at internal and external meetings, workgroups and/or Task Forces.
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and at least six to eight (6 - 8) years of professional experience, OR a master’s degree and four to six (4 - 6) years of professional experience. The ideal candidate will have at least 4 years of managerial and/or supervisory experience.
- Experienced researcher with strong analytical and writing skills
- A strong background in the gender equity field, including a demonstrated ability to work across racial, ethnic, gender and sexual diversity.
- Demonstrated project and relationship management experience.
- Proven experience working effectively with the senior management level with diverse internal and external stakeholders and constituencies.
- Strong supervisory skills with demonstrated ability to provide technical assistance that can drive multi- stakeholder groups towards meeting identified outcome goals.
- An ability to think creatively, embrace new approaches and pioneer innovative solutions to intricate problems, while working collaboratively with a diverse constituency.
- Experience in at least one City agency, state or federal government, and/or significant experience in the non- profit, or social services sector.
- Strong organizational skills, including attention to detail.
- Ability to synthesize and distill complex material into actionable recommendations.
- An energetic and self-starter mindset, be organized and results-oriented, and be a strong team player.
