What is IRPA?

The Office of Institutional Research, Planning and Assessment reports to the Provost, the University’s Chief Academic Officer.  IRPA is the source of the University’s official data, including enrollment and employee information.  The office provides information for decision support and assessment – often answering “what if” questions as the University considers new initiatives and then guiding assessment and evaluation of those initiatives once implemented.  A “frozen” data warehouse is the foundation for the analyses and assessment efforts conducted by the office.

As the office provides information to others, IRPA helps the campus community understand data so that it can be used in an appropriate context.  Work occurs both in dynamic teams and independently among staff members.  The art of finding answers that are useful for decision support, policy development, planning, assessment, and reporting may include literature reviews, environmental scans, and development of creative ways to present information, explaining drawbacks and limitations with clarity.
