Sociology Faculty Positions at New Mexico State University: The Department of Sociology invites applications for two entry level, tenure track Assistant Professor positions beginning in August of 2022. The Department offers both a B.A. and M.A. in Sociology on-campus and through distance education. The Department has specializations in Borderland Studies, Race/Ethnicity, Gender, Inequality, Alternative Economies, Social Movements, Political Sociology, Popular Culture, Environmental Sociology, Demography, Decolonization/Indigenization, Cultural Sociology, Big Data, and Education. New Mexico State University is a federally designated Minority and Hispanic-Serving Institution and Doctoral/Research University located in the culturally rich region of the US-Mexico border.

Position 1 will have a focus on Big Data. The subject area is open but should contribute to the needs of the department, college, and the university while working to secure external funding for big data/data science initiatives. Position 2 is an open methodology position focusing on the social dynamics, health outcomes, education, and economic inequality within the border region.

Ideal candidates will contribute to our new College of Health, Education and Social Transformation (HEST) and are expected to establish an active research agenda that includes seeking external funding. The goal of HEST is to foster cross-disciplinary research and teaching aimed at improving individual, societal, and policy outcomes in the border region and more broadly. Other duties include professional development, advising, and service. Teaching load is 3-3. Candidates will teach online and on-campus undergraduate and graduate courses addressing their areas of specialization and courses that meet the needs of the department.
