The Gene Therapy Program (GTP) is entering a new era of unprecedented opportunity with the great potential to reshape the face of medicine as we know it. Our discoveries have set the stage for successful treatments and possibly even cures for devastating genetic diseases.
The laboratory of Dr. Jim Wilson, at GTP of the University of Pennsylvania, has been a leader in the development of innovative vector technology for close to three decades. We have emerged as the “go-to” organization for public and private partners, who want to participate in the gene therapy space. Currently, we are positioned to lead another round of vector innovation and establish pre-clinical and clinical proof-of-concept in therapeutic applications of in-vivo genome editing.
Continuation of all GTP positions is contingent upon funding.
We are currently seeking a Contracts Manager to support the GTP and Orphan Disease Center (ODC) contracting and alliance management efforts in support of all GTP and ODC contracting and alliance programs.
Reporting to the Senior Director, Contracts and Alliance Management, the Manager, Contracts for GTP and ODC will be a member of the GTP Business and Strategy team as well as the ODC team and will be responsible for supporting the Senior Director, Contracts and Alliance Management in initiating, negotiating, executing, administering and managing contracts, including alliance-related contracts, for all GTP and ODC programs. The position will be responsible for managing variety of contracts and agreements with external parties.
This role will involve close collaboration with external GTP and ODC alliance partners, senior GTP and ODC leadership, project management, finance, the Penn Center for Innovation (PCI), the Office of Research Services (ODC), and the Clinical Trial Contracting Unit ("CTCU").
The successful candidate will have a proven track record and demonstrated experience of successfully and independently negotiating, executing, administering and managing a broad range of contract types within a complex research organization. Specific experience with university-industry contracting is essential. The Manager, Contracts should possess a strong scientific background in the life sciences field. An emphasis will be placed on superior independent problem solving, follow through, record and timeline management, execution, and communication across the GTP organization, GTP alliance partners, as needed, and across relevant Penn offices.
- 3 to 5 years of experience working in a contracts management capacity in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. B.S. degree required. Paralegal experience is a plus.
- Must be skilled in drafting, reviewing, modifying and negotiating contract agreements
- Experience working with pre-clinical or clinical research & development preferred but not required
- Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously is required
- Must be a self starter but also have a strong desire to contribute and work collaboratively to achieve goals
- Must have a track record of success in roles requiring execution of multiple tasks while responding to multiple priorities
- Must be highly functioning, detail-oriented, and analytical candidate
- Outstanding communication, analytical, and organizational skills
- Highly collaborative team player who fosters open communication and facilitates mutual understanding and cooperation between all stakeholders
- Self-directed individual who is able to work with limited direction in a fast-paced environment
- Experience creating and managing integrated timelines
- Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities under tight deadlines
- Ability to effectively manage multiple diverse cross-functional teams in a matrix organizational structure
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Project)
