Job Description Summary
The Morris Arboretum of the University of Pennsylvania inspires an understanding of the relationship between plants, people and place through education, research and horticultural display. Located in the Northwest section of the city, the Morris Arboretum is a destination for plant lovers from Philadelphia and beyond. The home to a collection of more than 13,000 woody plants and host to special and educational events. Morris Arboretum is a hub for botany, horticulture and urban forestry and a special part of Penn.

Job Description

The 9-month Youth and Visitor Education Internship is an integral part of the Education team, which develops and delivers educational programs primarily for school and youth visitors as well as professionals, adults, and families. The intern plays an important role in organizing a 6-week summer program (ACLAMO) as well as an annual outdoor career fair for High School students. The intern works with education staff to direct the activities of Education volunteers including training, workshop planning, and program support. The Youth and Visitor Education Intern meets regularly with volunteers and other professionals to plan, coordinate, and evaluate programs. The intern communicates with the public through newsletter articles and a monthly volunteer publication.

Whomever is selected for this part-time position should expect to work upwards of 40 hours a week depending on operational need. This position pays $15.00 an hour.

Duties

 

 

  • Supervise logistics of scheduled tours and guides
  • Write for, edit, and produce Volunteer newsletter
  • Manage Outdoor Career Symposium for high school students
  • Manage ACLAMO summer bridge program
  • Work on committees to help develop programs for adult and school groups
  • Work some weekend Arboretum events
  • Participate in professional development as scheduled
  • Perform additional duties as requested

 


Qualifications

 

 

  • Able to demonstrate proficiency in communication skills, both written and oral
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Must be adaptable and flexible
  • Working knowledge of Word, Excel and InDesign preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in related field
