Faculty Positions in Data Sciences and Artificial Intelligence

The College of Information Sciences and Technology (IST) at the Pennsylvania State University, as part of a major multi-year faculty hiring initiative in Data Science (DS) and Artificial Intelligence (AI), invites applications for multiple, open-rank, tenure-line faculty positions in Data Sciences (DS) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) beginning in Fall 2022. The new hires will build on the College's existing strengths in artificial intelligence, data sciences, security and privacy, and relevant interdisciplinary research areas, as well as expand in new areas of strength.

We seek outstanding candidates with a strong track record of research and publications in all areas of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. This may include any of the following areas: human-centered DS/AI, machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, causal inference, explainable AI, robotics, multi-agent systems, planning and decision making, reasoning under uncertainty, game theory, knowledge representation, affective computing, human-AI collaboration, data mining, data visualization, data integration, big data analytics, predictive analytics, database management and data architecture.

We are especially interested in candidates whose research contribute to DS/AI for social good, DS/AI for accelerating science and engineering, socially responsible DS/AI, and/or DS/AI that addresses societal or scientific challenges. We construe these areas broadly to include applications in fields like privacy, security, fairness, physical and mental health, social care, sustainability, energy, environment, engineering and science. Candidates will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses including residential, online, or hybrid courses.

Successful candidates for the Assistant Professor position will have a Ph.D. in a relevant field (e.g., Artificial Intelligence, Data Sciences, Informatics, Computer Science, Statistics) prior to beginning employment at Pennsylvania State University and should demonstrate strong research potential and commitment to interdisciplinary research and education. Candidates for the Associate Professor position will have a Ph.D. and a strong track record of research, publications, and funding. Candidates for the Full Professor position will have a Ph.D. and a track record of research, publications, and funding that distinguishes them, nationally or internationally, as leaders in Data Sciences and/or Artificial Intelligence. All candidates must pass a background check before beginning employment.
