Job Description Summary
The Associate Director of Fox Leadership International will plan, direct, and coordinate the admission and student services functions for the University's International Master of Public Administration (I-MPA) and related graduate programs. The Associate Director will work with the Faculty Directors of Fox Leadership International (FLI) and coordinate with staff in the College of Liberal and Professional Studies to implement all aspects of Global Leadership and Problem Solving (GLPS) summer programs for university students from China. The Associate Director will help the Joint Project on Elder-Care in China (J-PEC) identify and establish partnerships with eldercare organizations across major cities in China to advance multiple eldercare research projects. The Associate Director will teach at least three (3) I-MPA courses per semester, including for example I-MPA courses on Critical Issues in Governance and Human Well Being and the I-MPA Capstone. Prepare all course materials including syllabus, grade exams/quizzes, communicate and coordinate research and writing assignments, and conduct office hours to meet with students. Attend administrative meetings as needed and participate with the intellectual life of the department. Supervise teaching assistants for the I-MPA and related graduate programs.

Job Description

The Associate Director of Fox Leadership International will direct the admission and student services functions for the International-Master's of Public Administration (I-MPA) program and related graduate programs. The Associate Director will build relationships with colleges and universities in China, lead information sessions at those universities, develop marketing materials for the I-MPA program, and respond to questions from Mandarin and Cantonese-speaking students interested in applying to the I-MPA program. The Associate Director will lead the team that solicits, reviews and makes decisions on which applicants to accept for the program. 

The Associate Director will lead the student services function of the I-MPA program and related graduate programs, which will include managing all of the required co-curricular events for the I-MPA program and related graduate programs such as field trips, research site visits, and speaker events. The Associate Director will teach at least three (3) I-MPA courses per semester, including for example I-MPA courses on Critical Issues in Governance and Human Well Being and the I-MPA Capstone. Prepare all course materials including syllabus, grade exams/quizzes, communicate and coordinate research and writing assignments, and conduct office hours to meet with students. Attend administrative meetings as needed and participate with the intellectual life of the department. Supervise teaching assistants for the I-MPA and related graduate programs. In addition, the Teaching Assistants in the I-MPA program and related graduate programs will report to the Associate Director.  

The Associate Director will work with the directors to implement all aspects of the Global Leadership and Problem Solving (GLPS) programs operated in partnership with the College of Liberal and Professional Studies including a summer global leadership program for Chinese undergraduates, and function as co-instructor and chief student contact in the FLI-LPS Global Leadership and Problem-Solving summer programs.

One of FLI's signature projects is the Joint Project on Elder-Care in China (J-PEC), which is a partnership among the University of Pennsylvania, Tsinghua University's Research Center of Employment and Social Security Center in Beijing, and Tsinghua University's Research Center for Health Service Governance in Shenzhen, and China-based non-governmental organizations. J-PEC has an extensive research agenda focused on the eldercare crisis in China. The Associate Director will identify eldercare organizations in Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Suzhou, Nanjing and Beijing that will partner with J-PEC on the research projects. The Associate Director will arrange for and staff visits to the eldercare organizations in those cities.  

The Associate Director will serve as the point of contact with Penn offices related to certain operational aspects of Fox Leadership International such as information technology (IT) and websites.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

A master's degree in public administration and a minimum of five years of work experience, preferably in higher education settings in the United States and China, are required. The Associate Director must have experience working in degree, certificate, or other university-based programs, preferably in the United States and in China, that involve Chinese and/or American students in educational and cultural exchange initiatives that promote cross-national, problem-solving learning.

The Associate Director must have demonstrated experience working with eldercare organizations and universities in Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Nanjing, Suzhou and Beijing.  

The Associate Director must be fluent in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese, and must have excellent computer skills including proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint and Word. Ability to travel internationally for extended periods on an as needed basis is required.

Some evening and weekend work is required.
