Associate Research Scientist, CCQ/CCM

POSITION SUMMARY

The Center for Computational Quantum Physics and Center for Computational Mathematics of the Flatiron Institute invite applications for a position in the field of Mathematical Methods Applied to Quantum Many Body Science. The position may be at the Associate Research Scientist level or, in exceptional circumstances, at the Research Scientist level.

Directed by Leslie Greengard, the Center for Computational Mathematics (CCM) is a leading international center for the study of applied and computational mathematics. Researchers at CCM create new mathematical approaches, algorithms and software to advance scientific research in multiple disciplines, often in collaboration with other Flatiron Centers.

Directed by Antoine Georges and co-directed by Andrew Millis, the Center for Computational Quantum Physics (CCQ) is a leading international center for the study of equilibrium and non-equilibrium many-body quantum systems, with applications to condensed matter physics, materials science, chemistry and related fields. The development of the concepts, algorithms and code libraries needed to advance the field is fundamental to the work of the center.

Associate Research Scientists/Research Scientists are researchers who develop theoretical concepts, algorithms and codes, and apply these to obtain new insights into the quantum-mechanical behavior of materials and molecules. They develop their own research programs and also work in collaboration with other Flatiron scientists including postdoctoral fellows. Reporting to research scientists, and/or the director or co-director of CCQ or CCM as appropriate, these positions are based at the Flatiron Institute, Simons Foundation in New York City.

Associate Research Scientists are typically appointed for an initial three-year period; the appointment may be renewed for up to another three years. Research Scientists positions are not term limited. Associate Research Scientists may be reviewed for promotion to a non-term-limited position as a research scientist. Hiring will occur at a level determined by the relevantexperience of the candidate.

Review of applications will begin on or about Nov 15, 2021.
