The University of Iowa Department of Biostatistics invites applications for an open tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. Existing departmental methodological research interests include Bayesian modeling and inference, causal inference, clinical trials, clustering, computational statistics, epidemic modeling, high-dimensional data analysis, longitudinal data analysis, model selection, network data analysis, penalized likelihood models, predictive modeling, semiparametric and nonparametric modeling, spatial and spatio-temporal modeling, statistical genetics and genomics, statistical and machine learning, survival data analysis, syndromic surveillance, and time series analysis. The Department is looking to hire faculty who will either enhance or complement these research areas. Qualified candidates with all areas of expertise will be given full consideration. The position requires a PhD or equivalent in Biostatistics, Statistics, or a related area, as well as evidence of excellent written and verbal communication skills. The successful candidate must demonstrate the potential to develop a research agenda comprised of methodological and applied interdisciplinary contributions, the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team, the potential to excel as a teacher and mentor, and demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

The successful candidate will be involved in teaching, service, and research. The Department of Biostatistics is currently comprised of 14 primary faculty, 13 adjunct/secondary faculty, 30 staff and approximately 70 graduate students ( The Department includes the Clinical Trials and Statistical Data Management Center ( and provides leadership to the Center for Public Health Statistics ( The Department offers MPH, MS, and PhD degrees in Biostatistics. Computational resources provided through the department and college include support for workstations and servers using all major operating systems, a computer lab for instructional purposes with both Linux and Windows machines, and access to dedicated nodes in the University's high performance computing cluster.

Department faculty members enjoy strong collaborative relationships with other departments in the College of Public Health, as well as the Carver College of Medicine, the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science, the Institute for Clinical and Translational Science, the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Veteran's Administration Medical Center, and other groups across campus.  Information about The University of Iowa is available at
