The Opportunity
Temple University invites applications and nominations in its search for a Vice President for Institutional Advancement.

Reporting to the President, the Vice President for Institutional Advancement (“VPIA”) is an officer of Temple University (“Temple”) and a member of the President’s cabinet. The VPIA will help set the vision and strategy for engaging the university’s donor base and amplifying its fundraising activities. The VPIA will develop and execute long and short- term fundraising plans to support the University’s strategic direction, reach ambitious philanthropic goals and expand Temple’s visibility and footprint on a national stage. As the chief development officer, the VPIA provides leadership, direction and coordination to strengthen and expand individual, foundation and corporate support to the University. The VPIA provides strategic and operational oversight for the following departments within the Institutional Advancement office: advancement services, annual giving, development, stewardship and donor relations, research, events, and alumni and development communications. The VPIA will be passionate, creative and results-oriented and will possess the sophistication and savvy to strategically leverage the President's time to steward top donors and cultivate high-level prospects by laying the groundwork for his successful interactions and conversations.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced fundraising leader with an entrepreneurial, mission-driven, collaborative and results-oriented approach to advancement who has strategically built and led a comprehensive development operation. Along with exceptional communication skills, the VPIA will possess a proven track record of expanding and diversifying philanthropic support and creatively engaging university constituents, including the Board, leadership team, deans, faculty, alumni, donors, prospects, and volunteers in those efforts. In addition, the next VPIA will have passion for the mission of Temple University and the capacity to thrive in the University’s dynamic and diverse community. The successful candidate will have more than ten years of progressive experience managing and leading fundraising and development efforts for an organization of comparable size and complexity, preferably within higher education, with experience overseeing diverse teams. A bachelor’s degree is required.
