Assistant Professor of Music History

The University of Wisconsin – Platteville, Performing and Visual Arts Department seeks a tenure-track assistant professor of Music History for Fall 2017.  The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching the Music History sequence; oversee the Music Appreciation offerings; teach an ethnomusicology course.  The candidate will show strong competency in an additional area of specialization that may include (but not limited to):  Applied Instruction, Music Education, Music Business or Ensemble Direction.  The successful applicant will be expected to advise undergraduate music majors; and maintain an active and musically diverse career inside and outside of the classroom.  To successfully achieve tenure, the candidate will have to show significate success in recruitment of music majors and minors.

Doctorate in music or ABD required.  Completion of a doctorate is required before consideration of tenure.  Desired candidates will have experience teaching undergraduate music history courses; collegiate teaching experience in an additional area; excellent communication skills.  The candidate must be an outstanding classroom educator.  Evidence of proven recruiting success will also be considered.  The candidate must have demonstrated commitment to or experience with racially diverse populations.
