Associate Dean for Research, School of Dentistry

The School of Dentistry of The University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio invites applications from distinguished biomedical scientists for the position of Associate Dean for Research (ADR). The appointee will be invited to join the scientific and leadership teams at UT Health San Antonio in early 2017 and will serve as a member of the School’s senior leadership team under the guidance of the Dean.  The ADR will promote, advance and lead oral health research programs within the School, with other schools at UT Health, and externally.

 

Role and Opportunities- The Associate Dean for Research will have unparalleled opportunities to continue her/his own research programs and to provide research leadership for one of the leading dental schools in the nation, both with extensive system, campus and school support, including readily available laboratory space, core facilities and services, and multiple ready collaborations.  Fully built out wet lab research space is immediately available to support this position, and additional faculty investigator hires are contemplated in the near future.  UT Health San Antonio’s School of Dentistry has a strong externally funded research program currently, and the ADR will be able to enhance investigations in at least three broad areas of discovery: basic oral biology research, translational and clinical investigations, and population and health promotion. The ADR will provide mentorship for faculty and trainees to pursue independent research activities and to facilitate collaborative research programs across the School, UT Health, as well as national and international research organizations.

 

Preferred Qualifications - This position requires a DMD/DDS, MD or PhD or equivalent doctoral degree, with research experience in areas relevant to Oral Health.  Candidates should have an outstanding track record of scientific achievements and external funding, demonstrated leadership and experience in mentoring and development of research programs, and strong organizational and communication skills.

The School recently opened a $108 million flagship clinical facility, the Center for Oral Health Care and Research, which supports the finest multispecialty patient care and clinical research.
