Job Description

The College of Education and Human Development at the University of Nevada, Reno (R1) invites applications for a tenure-track, full-time Assistant or Associate Professor in Elementary Science Education beginning in Fall 2022. The Department of Educator Preparation seeks candidates who are committed to promoting diverse, equitable, and inclusive learning and working environments.

The faculty will engage in an active, focused research program that results in publications and funded grants and contributes to the profession, university, and community service and outreach. The University's Office of Research and Innovation supports faculty in conducting research, scholarly, and creative activity.

The faculty will teach courses in Science Education and other areas related to STEM Education and Elementary Education. Teaching responsibilities include (but may not be limited to) Elementary Science Methods, Integrated STEM, and general elementary education courses; advisement of Master's students in the Elementary First-Time Licensure program and Elementary Education Master's of Science program with an emphasis in STEM Education; and, advising and mentoring doctoral students in STEM Education and Curriculum and Instruction.

An appointment at the Associate level will include the Director position of the Raggio Research Center for STEM Education, which includes building relationships with colleagues within the College and across campus, having a strong research agenda in STEM education, and having experience in obtaining external grant funding. The faculty will be expected to develop and maintain relationships with STEM-related business and organizations in the area and state.

Required Qualifications

An earned doctorate by August of 2022 in Science Education, STEM Education, Elementary Science Education, Learning Sciences, Curriculum and Instruction, Teacher Education, or a related field.

At least three years of K-12 teaching experience or equivalent that includes teaching science.

Ability to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in elementary science methods.

Demonstrated excellence or potential for excellence in research and grant acquisition.

Additional Required Qualifications for Associate Professor

Demonstrated an established record of research, teaching, and service that meets the University's requirements for tenure at the appropriate rank.

Demonstrated experience with writing and managing grants

Experience mentoring graduate students from diverse backgrounds.

Demonstrated record of leadership at local, regional, state, and national levels.

Demonstrated record of chairing and advising graduate students.

Demonstrated record of leadership at department, college, and university levels.

Preferred Qualifications

An externally fundable research agenda in science or STEM education.

Experience or interest in building researcher-practitioner partnerships with schools and communities.

A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a science field (such as biology, chemistry, earth science, physics).

Demonstrated record of mentoring junior faculty peers.

Demonstrated record of leadership in international professional organizations.
