Assistant/Associate Professor – Operations and Information Systems (OIS)

 

The Manning School of Business (MSB) at the University of Massachusetts Lowell is seeking one new tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor in the Department of Operations and Information Systems. The preferred fields of specialization for the position are: business/data analytics; preference will also be given to the other research areas like data science, IT economics, Internet of Things, cloud computing, social media and/or the related areas of MIS.


Located 30 miles northwest of Boston, UMass Lowell has over 18,000 students and is one of the largest public universities in Massachusetts. The MSB has over 3,000 undergraduate and graduate students and is accredited by the AACSB International. The School is building program offerings at all degree levels and seeks to further enhance the faculty's high level of research productivity. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to participate in (1) the growth and delivery of all academic programs including our Ph.D. with a specialization in MIS, (2) the growth of our Master of Business Administration with IT/IS concentration, and a new Master of Science in Business Analytics, in addition to the undergraduate BA program with MIS major, and (3) ongoing initiatives undertaken in research, instruction and outreach. Salary is commensurate with experience.

 

Successful candidates for the position of Assistant Professor are expected to develop a productive body of interdisciplinary scholarship in the area of MIS, while Associate Professors must have a demonstrated record of productive scholarly research, excellent teaching and service record, and extramural funding to be considered for the position. While classes taught on load are primarily on-campus, additional teaching opportunities exist for online teaching.


Minimum requirements:

  • Completed doctorate in MIS, business analytics, or related fields from an AACSB International accredited business school (must have completed doctorate by the date of appointment, August 2017)
  • Evidence of ongoing scholarly publications in MIS and/or business analytics areas
  • The ability to work effectively with diverse groups
  • A record of teaching effectiveness at the graduate and/or undergraduate levels  

 

Other considerations:

  • Experience supervising and advising graduate students for Associate Professors
  • Industrial or corporate business experience
  • Commitment to develop and sustain an externally funded research program
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to speak and write English clearly
  • Experience in teaching online or web-enhanced courses
